My problem is that each reboot of the VB creates a different Hardware ID and so. I've read that a barrack lawyer works in the military and that they're not as talented and knowledgeable as the JAG, right? Well, I was asking because I will have to spend quite some time on that Windows software for my work and wouldn't want to neglect Windows and find out someday that I should have maintained it like any other OS. Hi, I have a Win7 installation running perfectly on my Linux mint 17 laptop. I have never heard of that term before but I learned something new today, thanks. Now wait for someone who really knows what they are talking about to come on and give some sound advice. On the other hand if for some reason you have a bridged network connection and are going to have your guest Windows VM facing the Internet 24/7 then I would say you should take the same precautions recommended to any Windows user - whatever they are. And even if it should somehow get infected I can always do a fresh install relatively easy. My thinking is that it is sandboxed, has a NAT network connection and is only exposed to the Internet for relatively short periods of time. Anyway I turned off the Windows update function. I had an old license for Windows 7 that I used to install Windows into VMware Workstation Player (what I went through with M$ involving that is a story for another thread). I only use Windows rarely on my VM (maybe 3 or 4 time a year) occasionally to update my Garmin and for a very rare app (at least to me) my wife uses in her genealogical research. Fortunately, that time is over.Įver hear of a "barracks lawyer" ? - it the guy in the barracks that gives legal advice but really has no clue. It reminds me of the time I used to spend on Windows because there was always something going wrong, always something to fix and I soon started to hate it and found Linux, a completely different world. Do you have to keep windows updated and go through the long reboots that I used to hate when I was on it? check for viruses and stuff? or am I free of these troubles being on Linux? The great thing with VMware is that it's trouble free and worked right out of the box Yes, I did but I just had to reboot for the internet connection to work
